POSITION: POLICE CAPTAIN
LOCATION: Beaufort, NC
SALARY: $54,995 - $64,687 DOQ (FLSA Exempt)
DUTIES: The Town of Beaufort is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Captain. This position performs complex protective service and administrative work assisting with the overall direction and supervision of the Police Department. Read the full job description here.
The Beaufort Police Department provides full police services to the community, including community policing, traffic and criminal law enforcement, emergency response, investigations, and special events. The Department serves a community of approximately 4,500 permanent residents and a summer population that swells to over 10,000 residents, visitors, and summer guests.
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience with the last five (5) years in a supervisory capacity equivalent to the rank of Sergeant or above, and an Associates/technical degree with coursework in criminal justice or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Selected external candidates will have to complete an extensive pre-hire process that will include a medical examination, polygraph examination, psychological examination, emotional intelligence testing, and the successful completion of North Carolina’s police officers physical abilities test (POPAT).
All applicants must possess a current N.C. General Law Enforcement Officer Certification or have the ability to obtain it within one (1) year from the date of appointment, a Class C Driver’s License, and the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate issued by the N.C Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Division or equivalent if from out of state. If selected, residency within Carteret County is required within six months of appointment.
