LOCATION: Beaufort, NC
HIRING SALARY: $40,076 - $50,684 – DOQ

DUTIES: The Town of Beaufort is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Detective.   This position is responsible for initiating both preliminary and supplemental criminal investigations regarding personal, property, and drug-related incidents. This work is performed with a minimal amount of direct supervision, requiring thorough knowledge of the physical, economic, and social characteristics of the Town (see full job description).

Candidates will have to complete an extensive 2-4 week pre-hire process that will include a medical examination, polygraph examination, psychological examination, emotional intelligence testing, and the successful completion of North Carolina’s police officers physical abilities test (POPAT). The selected candidate will be subject to a one-year probationary period.  
All applicants must be eligible for immediate certification with N.C. Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission or eligible for lateral transfer if applying from another agency in North Carolina or out of state transfer.  All applicants must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license at the time of appointment. Applicants shall have at least three (3) years progressively responsible full-time law enforcement experience with a single agency and have obtained their Intermediate Law Enforcement Certification from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission or equivalent if from out of state.   If selected, residency within Carteret County is required within six months of appointment.
