The Board of Adjustment is composed of five regular members and two alternates.  Three of the regular members and one alternate are appointed by the Town of Beaufort Board of Commissioners and reside within corporate limits.  Two regular members and one alternate are appointed by the Carteret County Board of Commissioners and reside within the extraterritorial planning area of Beaufort.  The Board of Adjustment may review a decision of the Code Enforcement Officer when it is alleged that there is an error in any order, decision, or requirement of the Code Enforcement Officer.  The Board of Adjustment also may grant a variance of the Zoning Ordinance.
