Bicycle Plan Project Update – Moving Forward

The Town is excited about the overwhelming response of citizens wanting to volunteer on the Steering Committee of the Bicycle Plan.  Over thirty-two citizens signed for seventeen seats on the committee.  We encourage all citizens to get  involved in the design process as there will be plenty of opportunity to share your thoughts and insight in developing the plan.

Regarding where we are in the process, the Town in October selected Rivers & Associates of Greenville, NC as the consultant for this project.  Rivers & Associates brings years of experience and has developed bicycle and pedestrian plans for Kinston, Williamston and Winterville, NC that have been successful. 

As a way to keep everyone informed of what is happening our consultant has also developed a bicycle plan website www.bikebeaufort.com which provides updates on meeting dates, locations, agendas and minutes.  Also, a citizen survey is included so that we can receive as much information on the public’s view of bicycling in Beaufort as possible.  I encourage everyone who can to participate.   Mark your calendars as well for February 19, 2009 which will be our first open house at the Maritime Museum.   During the open house all citizens will have the opportunity to share all your thoughts on bicycling in town so please attend.  If you don’t see something on the website or have questions about the bicycle plan please call Kyle Garner, the town planner at (252) 728-2141 ext. 39 for help.
